Cooperative Community & Cultural Ownership
Building community ownership and cultural preservation through collective action and intergenerational connection
Our Vision
We believe that strong communities are built when residents have a genuine stake in their neighborhoods and the power to shape their future. Through cooperative ownership models and cultural preservation initiatives, we're working to help our community maintain their identity, build collective wealth, and create lasting stability.
What We're Building
We're exploring cooperative ownership structures that give residents direct control over community assets:
- Community Land Trusts - Models for resident-owned housing and shared property
- Cooperative Housing Initiatives - Pathways to homeownership and wealth creation
- Collective Resource Management - Community management of shared spaces
These models can preserve cultural identity while creating economic opportunity and neighborhood stability.
Programs to connect generations and honor community heritage:
- Intergenerational Storytelling Projects - Documenting local history through conversations between elders and youth
- Cultural Asset Mapping - Identifying and celebrating unique cultural resources in our community
- Tradition Preservation - Teaching traditional practices, arts, and knowledge to new generations
Putting decision-making power in the hands of residents:
- Participatory Design Workshops - Community sessions where residents plan and design shared spaces
- Neighborhood Planning - Collaborative visioning for cultural hubs and community centers
- Resident Leadership Development - Training community members to lead planning efforts
Partnerships We're Pursuing
To bring these programs to life, we're seeking partnerships with:

- Renaissance West Community Initiative - Learning from proven collective ownership approaches
- City of Charlotte - Accessing Community Impact Grants for community projects
